Blog #4

Blog #4: How did you come up with your ideas for your snapshots? In other words, what experiences from your past served as inspiration for your writing, and how did you know they would be good for this paper? Additionally, are there experiences/ideas that you considered, but did not end up using? How did you decide what would work, and what wouldn’t? This blog can serve as a rough draft for your process memo.

I started off by looking through pictures and I picked ones that have made the biggest impact on my life. For example, I chose a picture of me holding my newborn brother in the hospital. I also chose a picture of my best friend and I in Colorado skiing because it has been a tradition for the past five years and is something that we both look forward to all year. In most of my snap shots I have described what I was feeling when that particular picture was taken, so in the end I plan on adding in the pictures and coming up with a creative way to put the words around them. Although the seven snap shots I chose are extremely diverse, they are all centered on love. Whether its what I feel for the person, place, or sport, love is what has made each story so important to me.

  1. I find that to be an interesting way to decide on which memory to use. I simply thought about the past and which experiences stuck out to me the most. The pictures seem like they would help add serious detail. Particular memories must be easier to remember and write about if you can put a clear image of it in your head.

  2. I think this was a great idea. I never thought about actually looking at pictures to come up with my snap shots, but I think it probably gave you such a good idea as to what you were going to write about. You were most likely able to zoom in on the picture and put an immense amount of details. Although I didn't do this, and just remembered my snap shots through memory, I think this could've been very helpful for me in some instances.

  3. I like the way you came up with your snapshots. I have photos all over of my dorm with my friends and family and never thought of doing that to help me write my paper. If I would have thought of that, my snapshot stories most likely would be different than what they are now. Obviously in the photos you chose to write about, you had significant and powerful memories behind each image. Same here. I am a photographer and most of my photos symbolize an idea or capture a memory that I will never forget. I wrote about my twin and I have many photos of her and if I would have looked at the photos in my dorm, I probably would have chosen different stories. That was a good idea to do!
