A song is a
knife. A song is a house. A song is a friend. A song is an enemy. A song is a
melody. A song is a game. A song is a story. A song is a computer. A song is a
holiday. A song is a souvenir. A song is a memoir. A song is a dance. A song is
a love story. A song is an emotion. A song is a plane. A song is a car. A song
is a journey. A song is a book. A song is a letter. A song is a marriage. A
song is a TV. A song is a confession. A song is a whisper. A song is a breath.
The house smelled
like food. The TV sounded like Christmas music. The food tasted like veal. The
glacier looked like a giant. The bag felt like a rock. The song sounded like a
dance. The mountain looked like a triangle. The car smelled like brand new
leather. The defeat tasted like a bitter fruit. The door felt like wood. The
laugh sounded like a trumpet. The flower looked like a wild bird.
I think
that all my similes work. On the other hand, not all the metaphors do. They
mostly reflect what emotions one can feel while listening to a song rather that
describing what a song is.
I don’t
think I am going to be able to use any of the metaphors, but I can use most of
the similes in my story. For example: The food tasted like veal, the glacier
looked like a giant, the bag felt like a rock, the mountain looked like a
triangle, the car smelled like brand new leather, the door felt like wood and
the flower looked like a wild bird.
A song is a journey. I liked this one because of the truth behind it. Many of us have likely had the experience of hearing a song and remembering a certain fond memory. Some songs really can take us back to a cherished point in our lives.
ReplyDeleteThe mountain looked like a triangle. I found this one interesting for the literal and figurative meaning that I took from it. The first thing that pops into my head when I see a mountain usually isn't a triangle. However, I can definitely see how a triangle could quickly come to mind when seeing a mountain.
I liked the metaphor "a song is a confession" because sometimes it really is. It can be understood in the way of a metaphor or in in the way that people choose to make their confessions through a song. Because some people really do, for them it is either the easiest or the best way to do it.
ReplyDeleteI also liked the simile "the laugh sounded like a trumpet" because it shows to the reader in a short and effective way how the laugh was. It is much easier and better than describing the sound using a couple of lines.
I really liked your metaphor "A song is a story". It's very true! Songs take us on an adventure. They're meant to tell us a story about something and it is often up to use to interpret what that story is.
ReplyDeleteI also liked "The defeat tasted like a bitter fruit". This is also true. When we don't succeed at something it pulls us down and we sometimes get upset. It' as if we are eating a bitter fruit. No one wants to be defeated so it fills us with great sorrow.
