Ending 1:
I run out of the store, with the homeless man chasing me from behind. I jump the railing to the compact sidewalk beneath, probably crushing every little bone in my feet. I ignore the crosswalk, nearly getting hit by a car, and continue my sprint back to campus. I get to the second street and I see the homeless man still running, not regarding his safety any more than I was to my own. As he crossed the second street, I hear brakes screech and a hard thump, and something within me told my body to stop and see what occurred. I see the car stopped in the middle of the street, and a body on the ground, motionless. Something else tells me to walk towards the body, even though I know it's the homeless man. As I get closer, I see clearly the homeless man has been hit by a car, and he lies still with blood coming from his mouth, not showing any sign of life. Without discretion, I quickly grab my phone and call 911, for the man who had been chasing me the entire night.
Ending 2:
As I continue to walk hastily down the sidewalk, I can see the homeless man gaining ground on me, my legs beginning to give out on me. I treat them like people, Come on guys, don't quit on me now, keep going, keep going! trying my best not to be caught. With more concern over myself and the homeless man, I don't pay any attention to the cars whizzing by, but one car in particular noticed me. As I get to a crosswalk, there was an empty dentist's office on the other side of the street, and that certain, observant car pulled over, later I realize for me. It was two of my friends from high school! They shout out to me to come over, they'll drive me back to campus, no one should be walking alone at this time of night. As I take a seat in the car, I zone out their conversations, only thinking how my luck has changed drastically, and I can now be safe.
Ending 3:
As I stand in the store, giving the cashier my money, I see out of the corner of my eye the homeless man walk in, but he doesn't see me right away. Without getting the rest of my change, I rush out, not looking back to see if the man saw, or recognized me. As soon as I hit the sidewalk, I pick up my pace, not wanting the man to have any chance to catch up with me. I'm three blocks down before I see the man hastily rush out of the store, obviously looking for me. I pick up my pace even more, assuring myself there's no way he'll catch me now. Two streets later, I turn around and there's no sign of him on either sidewalk, and I'm ensured that I can go home safely. As I approach the empty crosswalk, the homeless man runs up from a dark side street, his eyes deadlocked on my still body. When he sees it's me, he comes straight up to me, like a child who has finally found his parents after being lost for hours. Gasping for breath he cannot talk right away, as I stand there motionless, asking myself why I haven't run yet. He catches his breath and puts out his hand, and I see that he's holding keys! They must've fallen out while I was running, from him. I can't get any words out, my emotions so tied in a knot I don't know what to feel. As I try to hand him some cash in reward for handing me back my keys, he shakes his head, and tells me it's all right, and have a safe night. My entire perspective on humanity has been shaken in the matter of hours.
