Blog #1- Hewitt

I would say the most stressful aspect of writing for me, what I get most anxious about, would definitely have to be organization. I feel like I get decent ideas for topics or papers, as well as being decent with grammar and mechanics; we’ve learned this all throughout our grade school careers, so at least I know of the basics and bigger ideas within these topics. Deadlines have never been an issue with me, but actually making physical what is in my head is definitely tougher for me. This may be the reason why I may take a little bit longer to begin writing about a topic, a paper, or even little posts like this; I can’t find a way to just immediately put pen to paper or rather in this day and age, fingers to keyboard. Sometimes I will have a hard time beginning the paper and a little struggle to continue and finish, while other times I still have a hard time beginning, but like a dam (a beaver dam at least), after I break through the wall that was inhibiting me, I can finish a paper easily and without stopping or hesitations. Another issue that makes me anxious every time is getting feedback or review. I’m sure everybody gets nervous, curious at least, as to what someone else thinks about their writing; going on, I am sure that nobody likes receiving negative feedback about their own writing, which is what makes me so anxious about getting feedback or reading reviews about my writing. These issues I have may not be able to be solved in an Language Arts course (maybe a psychiatrist session… ), but I do hope that I will be able to improve my writing skills.

  1. I completely understand your struggle with writing. I face the same things every time i begin to write a paper. As for putting your ideas on paper you could try just writing tons of notes of everything that comes to your mind. I usually do this if I cant choose what to write about, and once i've written so much I organize it and I will find that I have several great ideas and they usually correspond to each other.

  2. I can't agree more with this. I think everyone has at least a little bit of trouble with their organization. I know for a fact that most people are going to be anxious about what others think about their writing, whether it's their professor, peers, or colleagues. That's the point of writing, to make an impression on the audience, and we always want it to be a good one.
