For me, writing is like a children who is allowed to play on a new playground. At first, he is confused at all the swings and ladders and slides, but when he finally starts to understand how everything should work, he can have the time of his life. I choose this metaphor only because I thoroughly enjoy writing, just as any child would enjoy playing on a playground. This instrument allows him to freely act and be himself, to not be controlled by others and conform to what they want to do, but for him to let loose and release all the emotions that have been weighing him down. This playground metaphor also speaks to me because it shows that I like to write, that writing for me isn’t a burden or an assignment, but a chance for me to be able to get away from all the normal structure of life and go into a world where I can control a little more than the real world allows. This metaphor may also show a little more of me personally, that I understand that even though our society says that life is about production and what everyone else thinks of you, a person is allowed to enjoy himself just for the sake of having fun. Writing for me is like playing on a playground, it doesn’t necessarily matter where you start on it, or how or when you enjoy it, but in just the fact that you do enjoy it and work with it.

  1. This metaphor could have many different approaches which is exactly why it works when describing writing. The playground is enjoyable for the child at first, they may get bored with it after a while, or the playground itself could be overwhelming. I have all of these feelings when writing, but most of the time, it is enjoyable.
