Looking back, a person risks losing hold of the present while being confounded by the past.
I can agree with this quote because I know many people who dwell on the past and let it get the best of them. The think of the better or worse times they have once endured and let it dictate their present life. I try not to do this, because I have seen how it can ruin other people, but sometimes it is hard to let go of the past. However, I don't think that I ever lose hold of the present. I may lose my grip of the present but I don't let it slip away completely. I think its okay and healthy to reflect on the past, as long as you don't live there.
I used the same quote as well and I completely agree with your statement. I believe it is good to remember the past and cherish it but you can't let that affect your future. I too struggle with this as does most of our society. I believe the people who get the most out of life are those who don't look in the rearview and just look at what lies ahead.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you completely. Although I believe everyone holds on to the past in some way or another, there is definitely a fine line between being caught up in the past and using your past to learn from in a positive manner. If you take your past and learn from it, I believe that is a healthy way of living. I'll admit, it is hard to not stay caught up in all the "what ifs" of life. But many individuals just need to be reminded to live in the present and forget about the past if their past is what is holding them back.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comments, as well as your comments on the quote itself. It is definitely nice to cherish and remember the good times, but to remember also that one cannot stay in the past forever because of the events happening in the present. We cannot stay behind, nor can we get ahead of ourselves. What Brianna said was really interesting, that there is a fine line between using the past to ones advantage, and trying to stay in the past.
ReplyDeleteon this blog I kinda agree becacuse i believe a person is going to hold on to his or her past regaurdless of what is happening. And the reason i think they hold on to it is because as they look back into their past they'll see what they did wrong and they will learn from their mistakes.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comments. In a way, its important to remember and reflect on what's happened in the past so we can learn from it. But like Brianna said, it is easy to get caught up in the past. What helps me is telling myself that everything happens for a reason and if it was meant to be then it will be. Staying positive and looking forward are great ways to not get caught up in the past.
